Bringing Transparency, Integrity, and Accountability Back to Dallas County Government

It seems that every week there is another embarrassing news story about the Dallas County Commissioners Court.  A County Commissioner and his staff are being investigated by the FBI, questions have arisen about elections integrity, and the firing of whistle-blower county employees have all shaken the public’s confidence in Dallas County government.  Sweetheart deals to cronies of elected officials and accusations of shakedowns have deterred major businesses from relocating to Dallas County and bringing much needed jobs.  Dallas County government is in the hands of irresponsible individuals who are using it as their own personal playground. The people of Dallas County have had enough.

As a citizen activist, Cecile Fernandez has stood on the front lines of the fight to demand transparency, integrity, and accountability from Dallas County elected officials.  Cecile works closely with citizen watchdog groups to shine the light of day on Dallas County corruption.  She believes that elected officials work for the citizens of Dallas County – and not the other way around.  Cecile is a fiscal conservative who is committed to cutting wasteful spending, reducing the Dallas County budget, and holding our elected officials accountable to Dallas County taxpayers.

Official Campaign Kickoff

We had a great turnout for the Cecile Fernandez for Dallas County Commissioner Campaign Kickoff & Fundraiser in March! Over 100 people came and went throughout the evening to enjoy barbecue and listen to my vision for taking back Dallas County. Thank you for your continued support!  Check out our pictures from this great event…

Honesty and Integrity Take Another Holiday in Dallas County Government

You might think that honesty and integrity should be more than a partisan issue wouldn’t you? But, yesterday at the Dallas County Commissioners Court meeting, only Republicans spoke out against the outrageous proposed reappointment of the founder of the New Black Panther Party (NBPP), Aaron McCarthy (AKA Aaron Michaels) to the Homeland Security Advisory Committee. This time around, his cover was blown, and his appointment was not “under the radar” of public and media recognition and scrutiny.

Dallas County Commissioner Republican candidates and Precinct Chairmen Cecile Fernandez , District 1 and Charles Lingerfelt, District 3 were joined by Precinct Chairmen Linda Butts, Chuck Henne and Larry Wainer in speaking out against the placement of a former (ed. current activities unknown) advocate of racial discrimination and anti-Semitism in a position of trust and responsibility in county government. Precinct Chairman Marjorie Ford was also present in a supporting role.

The culture of corruption created by the current majority of Democrats on the Commissioners Court, including County Judge Clay Jenkins, did not see anything wrong with ignoring or glossing over Mr. McCarthy/Michaels’ past reprehensible activities and affiliations. Judge Jenkins and Commissioner John Wiley Price trivialized objections to Mr. McCarthy’s appointment as “political”. The Anti-Defamation League, the Southern Poverty Law Center and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights would beg to differ with Judge Jenkins and Commissioner Price’s assessment.

Selected presentations by speakers Fernandez, Butts and Wainer were featured on the 5 o’clock News on Channel 11 last night.

Dallas County Commissioners Court Watchdogs ALERT!

Dear Dallas County Taxpayer:

This Tuesday in Dallas County Commissioners Court, John Wiley Price will be appointing Aaron McCarthy, founder of the New Black Panther Party (NBPP), to the Dallas County Homeland Security Advisory Committee.  Mr. McCarthy, who also goes by “Aaron Michaels” and “Aaron Michael” founded the NBPP in 1989.  He has also been a radio producer and owns a bail bonds company.Michaels rose to widespread attention for the first time when he called on blacks to use shotguns and rifles in Philadelphia to protest against the chairman of a school board.  The group is unapologetically anti-white and anti-Semitic.  The Anti-Defamation League, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the US Commission on Civil Rights all classify the NBPP as a hate group.  The Anti-Defamation League’s website also classifies the group as a US domestic terrorist group.

You may remember that this is the same group for which the Department of Justice filed a civil suit alleging violations of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, over threats of violence outside a polling location in Philadelphia.  This occurred during the 2008 presidential election.

Are you as outraged as I am about the appointment of this individual to such a powerful County Commission?  Below are some specific actions that you can take to block this appointment:1. Contact your Dallas County Commissioners.

Press Release: Cecile Fernandez Launches Campaign for Dallas County Commissioner, District 1

For Immediate Release

Cecile Fernandez Launches Campaign for Dallas County Commissioner, District 1

Local Republican Activist to Campaign on Anti-Corruption Platform

Dallas, Texas – January 2, 2012 – Dallas County Republican Activist Cecile Fernandez today announced the launch of her campaign to seek election to the Dallas County Commissioners Court, District 1.  The seat is currently held by Dallas County Commissioner Maurine Dickey, who has announced her intention not to seek re-election.  Dickey is also endorsing Fernandez’s campaign.

In addition to Commissioner Dickey, key campaign endorsements include State Representative Stefani Carter, Tarrant County Commissioner Andy Nguyen, Richardson City Councilman Steve Mitchell, Dallas County School Board Member Dr. Paul Freeman, and hundreds of other elected officials, activists, business owners, and Dallas County voters.

Fernandez’s campaign team includes Mark Brown, State Chair of the Texas Young Republican Federation, who is serving as Campaign Manager.  Angie King, President of the Park Cities Republican Women’s Club, is serving as the campaign’s Treasurer.

In announcing her candidacy, Fernandez said, “In the new District 1, the split between Republican and Democrat voters in the 2010 elections was very close to 50/50, with the Democrats barely receiving a majority of the vote.  I am confident that the recent and ongoing FBI investigations, indictments, and corruption trials of so many Democratic elected officials in Dallas County is going to result in a victory for Republicans county-wide in 2012.  Dallas County voters have had enough and are demanding a change.”

Fernandez is a community activist in Dallas County, with a focus on conservative causes.  She is also a leader of the Commissioners Court Watchdogs, a nonpartisan group of citizens concerned with bringing transparency, integrity, and accountability back to the Dallas County Commissioners Court.  Fernandez has become well-known in Republican circles as an outspoken critic of what she calls the “corrupt machine” that controls nearly every aspect of Dallas County government, and vocalizes her concerns regularly at Dallas County Commissioners Court meetings.  She also serves as a Republican Precinct Chair and the Vice Chair of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly (Dallas Chapter).

Fernandez has a wide breadth of employment experience, including executive positions held at both large and small corporations, county government experience, and nonprofit experience.  Currently, she is a small business owner, fundraising for conservative political candidates and causes.  As the former Executive Vice President of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc., Fernandez helped launch the restaurant organization’s franchise program and expanded the company as a national chain.  She also served as the Executive Director of Dress for Success Dallas.  Fernandez is a former Clerk at the Office of Dallas County Commissioner Maurine Dickey, in charge of communications and community outreach initiatives.

Fernandez resides in the Lower Greenville area of Dallas County with her husband, Lawrence, and their two rescue dogs.
